Gillian, Gilly or "Humming Bird" (nicknamed after Jamaica's national bird The Doctor Bird), completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) and returned to Jamaica for her medical studies at the University of the West Indies. She practiced at her home institution's teaching hospital for two years prior to residency.
Outside of her studies, Gillian volunteered caring for mentally challenged children in Jamaica. She was an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, volunteered with Campfire USA and the Yellow Ribbon Project, and with the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA). She was also the founder and coach of her school's synchronized swimming team and represented Jamaica at the international and regional level in the sport. She also loves to cook when residency allows!
