Hasini’s enthusiasm for world travel and global health began early. She has lived in 3 different countries and experienced many diverse cultures before the age of six.  At 2 years old, Hasini moved to Australia from her native Sri Lanka, finding herself in Tampa, Florida 4 years later.  She completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University where she discovered her passion for science, particularly bench work, and graduated cum laude with a research distinction with a degree in Biological and Environmental Engineering.  After 4 years of freezing winters, she moved to Miami for medical school and some sun.  However, after 2 years, she took a “break” to pursue a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from New York University where she studied mouse models of cardiovascular disease and inflammation, finishing her dissertation in an unprecedented 3 years.  Hasini has published multiple papers and given both oral and poster presentations at domestic and international conferences. 

Her passion for research is only rivaled by her obsession for the color pink and her commitment to providing a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.  Hasini has worked with victims of the Sri Lankan civil war and tsunamis, refugees of war and terror in New York who are seeking asylum in the United States, the Florida Child Protection Team, and Season’s Hospice, to name a few.  She is incredibly excited to be a double ‘Cane and to work with this amazing Med-Peds family in serving the Miami community. 

It’s not all about work though.  You can find Hasini living in South Beach soaking up some sun, training for a marathon, or out dancing in her free time.
