Georgetown University School of Medicine

Sofia is a first generation American born to Argentinian immigrants in a town just outside New York. However, always a city girl at heart, she frequently found herself catching the weekend train seeking adventure in New York City. At age 12, her family moved back to their hometown of Buenos Aires. As she developed an interest in international medicine, she decided to hop on a flight to Washington DC to study Biology & Global Health as well as Psychology at Georgetown University. Aways on the move, she spent most of her summers exploring the corners of the world with anyone that would join her. She spent time working on her French at University of Paris-Sorbonne as well as volunteering in low-resource health settings abroad. Still, she loved it so much at Georgetown she decided to stay for her medical degree and focused her energy on underserved populations. She worked at the student-run free Hoya Clinic, Mary’s Center, the Spanish Catholic Center, and became involved with Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) in order to learn how to best serve marginalized and immigrant communities.

Her desire to take her work abroad only grew stronger and her love for Med-Peds stemmed from her commitment to patients of all complexities and all ages. Jackson is exactly where she wanted to be for residency – a place where she can aspire to learn from the widest breadth of diversity in staff and patients alike. She dreams of one day joining the efforts of Médicins Sans Frontières in providing access to health services in settings of deep struggle and need. She hopes that her future career will include an active and dynamic balance between general inpatient practice and outpatient care.
