Drexel University School of Medicine

Stéphanie Chéry was born and raised in a large family (children to adult ratio 6:1!) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She later moved to Brooklyn, NY at the impressionable young age of fourteen.  In an effort to merge her practical interests with her romantic flare, she majored in Biology and minored in French literature at the City College of New York.

Under the most unpredictable of circumstances, Stephanie fell in love with medicine while visiting her family during the catastrophic Haitian Earthquake of 2010.  That year, after graduating from college, she moved to Philadelphia and completed a one year post-baccalaureate program at Drexel University College of Medicine, where she also finished her medical training. While there, she spent time volunteering at the free student-run clinic, and traveled to Cameroon to learn more about sustainable healthcare in a setting with very limited resources. She also enjoyed attending different cultural events on campus and around Philadelphia, as well as cooking large meals to feed her friends as a way to “de-stress” after exams. Stéphanie is excited about being a Med-Peds resident at UM/JMH particularly because of the strong Global health curriculum.  Her ultimate goal in life is to bring medicine the most remote areas of the world. She is also excited about her Miami residency because of her other fellow Med-Peds residents, and the yearlong warm weather which reminds her of Haiti!
