2024-2025 Application Information
Thank you for your interest in the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency program. We understand that the application and match process can be stressful. We want to make sure you are comfortable with our process and maintain as much transparency with this process as possible.
We are the main hospital affiliated with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. All applications are processed through The Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) and we participate in the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®). Please visit the ERAS® and NRMP® websites for further information.
The deadline to submit an application to our program is December 13, 2024. The vast majority of students will be selected to interview or placed on our waiting list by late October/early November. To ensure that we have sufficient time to review your application, the majority of your application should be uploaded by September 25, 2024.
Thank you to everyone who has applied to our residency program. At this time, we have concluded all interviews for our residency program and no additional invites will be sent out from our residency program. We wish the best of luck to everyone in the future.
HOW WE EVALUATE APPLICATIONS:
Our residency program conducts a holistic review of each application as we believe that each physician to be multifaceted beyond singular testing points such as the USMLE exams. Our holistic review evaluates six primary components within the application, and we are dedicated to taking the time to evaluate each application thorough from the following:
Academic and Clinical Performance
Commitment to Community Service
Demonstration of Leadership
Pursuit of Scholarly Activity
Demonstration of excellence via Letters of Recommendation
Personal Statement
We believe strongly in the growth mindset and that medical education is a continuum of growth and we evaluate applicants’ ability not only to excel but also ability to overcome challenges and barriers. In addition, we as a program are committed to recruiting a diverse group of trainees who uphold our ideals and beliefs in the importance of health equity and social justice, and dedication to dismantling the structures that perpetuate racism in medicine and society.
REQUIREMENTS:
ERAS application
Letters of Recommendation – Three (3) letters of recommendation from a physician directly involved with the applicant must be submitted before rank lists are due. Possible letter writers can include a Med-Peds physician, a physician that can attest to your pediatric or adult skills, or a Chairperson letter from either department. We do not require Chair letters or letters from Combined Med-Peds Physicians. Please contact the residency program director at jxt1084@med.miami.edu if you any questions..
USMLE and COMLEX - USMLE and COMLEX scores accepted. All Step 1 performance will be considered on a PASS/FAIL basis, regardless of when USMLE or COMLEX scores were taken. USMLE/COMLEX Step 2 CK score are not required to be considered for interview but must be available by the time of rank (March 1st) unless the test is officially cancelled and cannot be taken. We are unable to rank any applicant without a Step 2/Level 2 score. Osteopathic students are not required to take both COMLEX and USMLE exams. USMLE Step 2 CS and COMLEX Level 2 PE scores are not required and will not be considered as part of the application evaluation.
INTERVIEW INVITES:
To complete all application reviews fully, we usually dedicate several weeks of intense review. Thus, we will not send any invitations for interview until October 8th, 2024. Initial invites will be sent at 12:00 PM EST.
All interviews’ invites are handled online through the Thalamus platform integrated into ERAS, and self-scheduling of interviews are done through this platform. We have a limited number of slots available for each interview day. We will only send out enough invites based upon the number of available interviews slots, and we will not send out invites if interview slots are not available.
INTERVIEW DATES FOR THE 2024/2025 MATCH:
All interviews will be conducted virtually and will occur from October to December. In preparation for your virtual interview, we will send information to assure you have the minimum hardware and software requirements to conduct a seamless virtual interview. Our virtual interviews will conducted using the Zoom platform. Please notify us (medpeds@med.miami.edu) ahead of time if you anticipate having any technological difficulties or if there are any issues that arise on the day of the interview.

Information for International Graduates:
USMLE requirements – We do not have a specific score requirement, but we usually use the National Med-Peds USMLE averages as a benchmark. This information is available on the NRMP website in their reports section. Preference for interviews is given to those who pass all 3 exams on the first attempt.
U.S. Clinical experience is required, preferably 6 months.
Visa sponsorship – The hospital sponsors J-1 visa only.
Time since graduation: We have no specific requirement, but prefer <5 years.
We require ECFMG certification before the rank list deadline.
Resident stipends and benefits
All resident salaries and benefits are re-negotiated yearly. For the 2024-2025 academic year, stipend and benefits include:
PGY-1 salary of $68,728 plus a $2,500/year professional allowance
Each academic year, residents receive three new lab coats and three sets of scrubs
Meal card with $1, 500 per academic year
Included Health Insurance coverage
Optional heavily discounted vision/dental, and basic life + disability insurance
Optional contribution to 403b and/or 457b
Membership to AAP (with PREP) and ACP (with MKSAP)
