Med-Peds Transition Medicine Track
I’m the first Med-Peds resident to take part in our brand new Transition Medicine track offered to Med-Peds, IM, and Peds residents. In this track we play a role in helping shape our institution’s new transition medicine clinic, meet up once a month for journal club with the goal of becoming experts in the field of Transition Medicine by our graduation date, work to actively teach our co-residents on both sides about the financial/physical/emotional barriers to transitioning patients with chronic childhood conditions to adult care, and work closely with our amazing faculty track mentors (JT and Anjali Saxena) to produce more evidence based research and guidelines for safely transitioning some of our most complex and diagnostically unique patients. At this time, I’m currently working with the pediatric GI team to improve their transition of patients with Crohn’s Disease to adult GI care. To me, there’s no opportunity that screams MP4L louder than taking part in shaping this new frontier of medicine here in Miami.
Pediatric Medical Education Track
I’m also the first Med-Peds resident to take part in our, again, brand new Medical Education track offered through our pediatric residency program. I chose to pursue this track specifically through the pediatric program because pediatricians often have to translate difficult medical concepts into something that is understood by both parents AND children/adolescents, and are traditionally the group of physicians that stand at the forefront of shaping economic and public health policy. At this time, I’m working (directly w/ program director Dr. Alba and Holtz Hospital CMO Dr. Gelman) on the pediatric & OB/Gyn clerkship curriculum committee, have been leading workshops for both new interns and continuing education for faculty, and will soon be a certified instructor in our simulation center/mock codes.
